When lives are on the line, every hour counts.

That’s what makes Southern Journey Animal Rescue & Transport so extraordinary—and why, when tragedy struck, we knew we had to step up in a big way.

Southern Journey is a life-saving animal shelter and transport non-profit organization dedicated to moving animals from overcrowded, high-risk kill shelters in the South to shelters in the North—where euthanization is illegal and there are often waitlists to adopt. In other words: the more time they can spend on the road, the more lives they can save.

At Brightside Marketing & Design, we handle their online presence so they can stay focused on what they do best: rescuing animals. We’ve always known that our work with them directly translates into impact.

But we didn’t know how quickly that would be put to the test....

A Fire That Changed Everything

In an instant, Southern Journey’s world turned upside down.

A fire destroyed 100% of their facilities.

They had no physical base of operations.

There was still animals in need.

And now, an urgent requirement for support and funding.

Thankfully, none of the animals in their facility were hurt, but the staff was in full-on crisis mode: caring for animals, coordinating emergency logistics, and figuring out how to rebuild from nothing. They didn’t have time to worry about their website, digital communication, or donor funnels.

That’s when we kicked into overdrive.

We knew that if supporters didn’t clearly understand what had happened—and how serious it was—Southern Journey would lose out on critical donations and long-term support.

So we stepped in and took ownership of the digital side, fast. By immediately taking ownership of Southern Journey’s digital side, we:

  1. Freed their team to do what only they can do: rescue, transport, and care for animals in crisis.

  2. Ensure that every supporter, new or existing, had a clear path from empathy to contribution.

  3. Turned an overwhelming tragedy into a rallying point for deeper, long-term support.

Dive into the full case study to explore the strategy, execution, and results in detail—and discover exactly how you can replicate this success for your own non-profit.

This blog shares a project that’s especially close to our hearts: the work we did for Southern Journey Animal Rescue back in September 2024. At the time, we poured a lot into helping them. We’re only just writing about it now, in 2026, not because it wasn’t important, but because we’ve been quietly focused on the work itself rather than talking about it. Looking back, we realized this project deserved to be shared—not as a “look what we did,” but as a small way to spotlight an organization doing meaningful, everyday work for animals who can’t speak for themselves. It took us a while to feel ready to put that into words, but we’re grateful to finally tell this story and honor the impact Southern Journey Animal Rescue continues to make.
